    What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, improve efficiency, and provide information to site owners. Cookies may be 'session' cookies (deleted when you close your browser) or 'persistent' cookies (remaining on your device for a set period or until deleted manually).

    How ClearDebt Uses Cookies

ClearDebt uses cookies and similar technologies (such as browser local storage and tracking pixels) to operate the Service, keep you logged in, remember your preferences, understand how you use the app, display relevant financial product offers, and serve advertising. We group every cookie into one of three consent categories: Necessary, Analytics, or Marketing.

    Consent Categories

When you first visit the site, our cookie banner asks you to choose which categories to allow. You can change your choice at any time by clicking 'Manage cookie preferences' in the footer.

    Necessary

    Always Active

Required for the Service to function. These enable authentication, session management, security, and remembering your cookie choice itself. You cannot disable these without losing the ability to log in or use core features.

    • Authentication tokens (via Supabase) that keep you logged in.
    • CSRF protection tokens that prevent cross-site request forgery.
    • Session identifiers that maintain state as you navigate the app.
    • The 'cd_consent' cookie that stores your cookie preferences.
    • Stripe cookies set during secure checkout and fraud prevention.

    Analytics

    Optional

Helps us understand how the Service is used so we can improve features and fix friction. Data is aggregated and not used to identify you personally. Disabling Analytics will not affect functionality.

    • Page views and in-app event tracking.
    • Session duration and navigation paths.
    • Feature interaction events (e.g., 'Ran debt comparison').
    • Cloudflare Zaraz analytics tags loaded based on your consent.

    Marketing

    Optional

Enables advertising on the Service and measurement of ad performance. When Marketing is disabled, the Google AdSense loader script is not even downloaded by your browser, and no ads are requested or shown. Affiliate-network tracking that fires when you click a financial product offer also falls under this category.

    • Google AdSense (pagead2.googlesyndication.com) — ad serving and measurement.
    • Affiliate click ID cookies placed by networks like CardRatings.com, Commission Junction, or Impact Radius.
    • Conversion pixels that fire when you complete a card application.

    Third-Party Cookie Providers

The main third parties that may set cookies when you use ClearDebt:

    Supabase (Necessary)

Our database and authentication provider. Sets session cookies necessary for login and data access. See supabase.com/privacy.

    Stripe (Necessary)

Our payment processor. Sets cookies for secure payment processing and fraud prevention. See stripe.com/privacy.

    Cloudflare Zaraz (Analytics)

Edge-based tag manager that loads analytics tags only when you allow the Analytics category. See cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

    Google AdSense (Marketing)

Serves the ads you may see across our blog and informational pages. The AdSense script is only injected when you allow the Marketing category. See policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

    Affiliate Networks (Marketing)

Networks such as CardRatings.com, Commission Junction, or Impact Radius may set tracking cookies when you click affiliate links. Governed by each network's own privacy policy.

    Local Storage & Similar Technologies

In addition to cookies, we may use browser local storage or session storage to persist small amounts of data on your device — for example, to remember your last-viewed dashboard state. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to third parties. You can clear it through your browser's developer settings or by clearing your browser's site data.

    Managing & Opting Out

You have several options for controlling cookies:

    ClearDebt Cookie Banner

Use the cookie banner shown on your first visit, or click 'Manage cookie preferences' in the footer at any time to toggle Analytics and Marketing on or off. Your choice is remembered for one year.

    Browser Settings

All modern browsers let you view, block, or delete cookies. Blocking Necessary cookies will prevent you from logging in.

    • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
    • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
    • Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
    • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions

    Opt-Out of Analytics

Disable the Analytics category in our cookie banner, or install browser extensions such as uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger to block analytics tracking across the web.

Opt-Out of Marketing & Affiliate Tracking

Disable the Marketing category in our cookie banner. You may also visit the NAI opt-out page (optout.networkadvertising.org) or the DAA opt-out page (optout.aboutads.info). Note: opting out stops tracking cookies but does not remove affiliate links from the Service.

Disabling Necessary cookies (authentication/session) will prevent you from accessing your ClearDebt account.

    Do Not Track

Some browsers transmit a 'Do Not Track' (DNT) signal. Because there is no universal standard for interpreting DNT signals, ClearDebt does not currently alter its data practices in response to them. We will revisit this if an industry standard is established.

    Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. We will post the updated policy with a new effective date. For material changes, we will notify you via email or an in-app notice.
